Doosan Enerbility has announced plans to begin construction of a factory for manufacturing 14MW offshore wind turbines in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

On March 12, Doosan Enerbility signed an Early Works Agreement (EWA) with Siemens Gamesa to establish the new wind power facility in Changwon. The signing ceremony took place at Doosan Enerbility’s headquarters in Changwon, attended by key figures including Executive Vice President Yoon Yo-han (Head of Power Services Sales), Executive Vice President Lee Kwang-yeol (Head of Power Services Design/Production), and Dr. Pelk Murdon (Head of Nacelle Production at Siemens Gamesa).

Since forming a strategic partnership in 2022 to expand the domestic offshore wind market, this agreement marks the start of the implementation phase. Doosan Enerbility will begin designing the 14MW offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility and production system at its Changwon site, while Siemens Gamesa plans to transfer technology to ensure the efficient assembly of nacelles at the factory and provide necessary personnel support and training.

Siemens Gamesa, part of Siemens’ wind power division in Germany, holds a leading market share with a supply record of 28GW in the global offshore wind market. Doosan Enerbility started its wind power business in 2005 and has recorded the highest supply performance in the domestic offshore wind sector.

“This agreement advances our cooperative relationship into a practical implementation phase,” said Son Seung-woo, Head of Power Services BG at Doosan Enerbility. “Through collaboration, we will stimulate the domestic offshore wind industry and contribute to the expansion of carbon-free energy.”

“Our collaboration with Doosan Enerbility has played a significant role in securing an important project pipeline in Korea,” said Dr. Pelk Murdon from Siemens Gamesa. “Doosan is a trusted partner that will ensure smooth technology transfer and assist in the introduction of 14MW offshore wind turbines.”

Meanwhile, in the results of the fixed-price contract bidding for wind power conducted in the second half of last year, five offshore wind projects and six onshore wind projects were selected. Doosan Enerbility was chosen as the preferred contract negotiator for the Yawol Offshore Wind Project (104MW).

Siemens Gamesa was selected as the preferred contract negotiator for the Anma 1 Offshore Wind Project (224MW), Anma 2 Offshore Wind Project (308MW), and the Firefly Floating Offshore Wind Project (750MW). In these projects, Doosan Enerbility will assemble and supply the key component, the nacelle, for offshore wind turbines at its Changwon factory.
